Cerused OakDating back to the 16th century, ceruse was a white lead derivative used as a cosmetic by luminaries such as Queen Elizabeth I. Highly toxic on human skin, it found favor with cabinetmakers, who used the paste to fill the porous open grain of oak planks. Known in Britain as “limed oak,” the finish was popular throughout the Art Deco era and employed by notable midcentury modern pioneers including Jean-Michel Franck and Paul T. Frankl. A version of the technique, with a whitened grain contrasting against a black stain, was widely imitated in the 1950s. These days, nontoxic colored waxes are used to create the effect, which evokes a bygone era of glamour and craftsmanship. I just found out that a good friend of mines home (pictured here) is going to be featured on a mid-century modern home tour. I am really excited to have this event in Indy and look forward to checking out all the homes on showcase. Here are the details for now, as it is a bit of a ways out yet…
So last night I decided to go for a midnight walk after all of the snow and take some photos. It was absolutely amazing out… this is a photo from our street with no flash. I haven’t taken a midnight walk in a long time, I highly recommend it!
Okay now this is just too cool. Imagine you are driving through a neighborhood you may find you like and say to yourself ”I wonder if there are any homes for sale near me?” Well for all you lucky folks who have an iPhone today is your lucky day because, well…they have an ap for that too!
Many of us that drive from the Northside of Indianapolis to downtown use Fall Creek Parkway. Right after passing the BP around 38th St. is this stunning beauty. I have had my eye on it for many years just wondering what was happening. Well, it is now on the market at 55k (obviously in need of dire repair) and I believe at least one offer is already in on it. I can’t wait to see the transformation it will take, and hopefully all of the homes on what I believe to be an underestimated, timeless, and beautiful stretch of Fall Creek Road.
